Did you know that St. Georges Tech has a Preschool Program?

St. Georges Preschool is a laboratory preschool that provides practical experience for our high school students enrolled in the Teacher Academy for Early Childhood Education. This program prepares high school students to become competent in child care rules and regulations, learning environments, principles of child development, trends and issues in early childhood education, and classroom management techniques.

The preschool at St. Georges has an educational philosophy focused on exploration and discovery in a supportive and enriching environment based on the interests of the children through the guidance of the high school student-teachers. The preschool offers a rich and stimulating learning environment where children can develop positive relationships with others. The curriculum focuses around play-based learning developed by the student-teachers using thematic unit based curriculum. It is through play where children learn about their world. Children are encouraged to use their imagination in constructive and engaging ways through purposeful play experiences. The program strives to achieve an optimal balance between children’s self-initiated learning and student-teacher-guided learning.

Hours of Operation: 9:15 am-11:45 am Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Our Pre-K program for 3 and 4-year-olds focuses on two overarching learning goal:

1.) Building Community- As 3 and 4 years old children become increasingly more independent and interested in their peers and are able to play and work cooperatively while building a caring community. They begin to explore and develop friendships and to deepen their understanding of what it means to help others and develop caring attitudes.

2.) Approaches to Learning- Becoming a lifelong learner entails not only the mastery of developmentally appropriate content but also the strengthening of learning habits and attitudes that serve to sustain the child’s innate sense of wonder and curiosity. Through training and education student-teachers learn how to support children’s motivation for learning, create opportunities and experiences that develop a love of learning through literacy, math and other content area skills, while also promoting the development of curiosity, problem-solving, growing confidence, self-regulation, critical thinking, and persistence, cooperation, self-control, and motivation to learn.

outdoor learning playing boots and suits

On Thursdays we have our 'Boots & Suits' Day where the preschoolers spend the day outside exploring in nature.  We have a fenced in outdoor playground with additional outdoor learning spaces where the children experience learning in an authentic natural environment. We believe that nature is the integrating thread that intentionally ties together the preschool’s philosophy and methodologies.

Our nature preschool’s program is based on high-quality experiences of both early childhood education and developmentally appropriate practices. Our nature preschool program uses the natural world to support dual goals that address both child development and conservation values.

We focus on developing an ecological identity with environmental ethic for the world of the child in all domains

– cognitive, physical, social, emotional, aesthetic, and spiritual.
